Hanna, Whitfield and Ros-Lehtinen Honored at Republican Main Street Partnership’s Annual Awards Dinner

Governing Republicans Awarded for Their Achievements in Congress

The Amory R. Houghton Jr. Award for Distinguished Service is named for Republican Main Street Partnership Founder and former Congressman Amo Houghton (R-NY). While in Congress, Houghton demonstrated that working out differences with one another is a worthwhile effort and respecting all people in a diverse society is essential to the success of democracy and all that we stand for as a nation.WASHINGTON – The Republican Main Street Partnership today announced that at its annual dinner and awards presentation, Congressman Richard Hanna (R-NY) and Ed Whitfield (R-KY) will be honored with the Amory R. Houghton Jr. Award for Distinguished Service. Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) will also be honored with the Women2Women Inspiration Award for her contributions towards promoting the Women’s National Policy Agenda.

“Governing is much tougher than campaigning and in today’s political climate, it takes courage to be willing to work across the aisle in Congress,” said Sarah Chamberlain, President of the Republican Main Street Partnership. “I’m pleased to present Congressmen Whitfield and Hanna with the Houghton Award for their commitment to conservative, pragmatic solutions on behalf of the districts they represent.”

Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) is the 2016 recipient of the Women2Women Inspiration Award. The award was created to recognize those outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions toward increasing women’s political understanding participation.

“We live in a dangerous world and Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen’s past work as Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee has brought a voice to the thousands of security moms I’ve spoken with across the country who are concerned about how we meet the growing threat of radical Islamic terror,” said Chamberlain.

Quotes from Award Winners:

“It is an honor to be named this year’s recipient of The Amory R. Houghton Jr. Award for Distinguished Service. Mr. Houghton represented an era of thoughtful leadership and balanced representation, where respect was paramount and ideas – not ideology – drove the agenda. This nation is experiencing a period of extreme partisanship and winner-take-all politics that endanger our competitiveness, our ability to control our debt and our global standing. True solutions lie in compromise, tolerance and an understanding that a peaceful society exists only when all of us have a say in the process.” – Congressman Richard Hanna (R-NY)

“I am honored to receive the Amory R. Houghton, Jr. Award for Distinguished Service and wish to congratulate my colleague from New York, Richard Hanna, on also receiving this distinction.  Both of us join an impressive list of past recipients, many of whom I am pleased to call not only colleagues, but friends.  This award’s namesake, former Congressman Amo Houghton, embodies the spirit of the Main Street Partnership, which has always been a shared desire to serve the public, govern pragmatically, and promote conservative principles while also valuing the diversity of constituencies across this nation.” – Congressman Ed Whitfield (R-KY)

“I’m honored to receive the Women2Women Inspiration Award but even more honored to participate in the Republican Main Street Partnership. We’ve got to continue to set out a diverse agenda for our country where opportunity and the ability to succeed are paramount. Only by incorporating voices from different sectors of our great nation can we create policies that empower all to create a better future for themselves, their families, and their communities.” – Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL).
