Members Join Local and Federal Officials for Recovery and Relief Tour
WASHINGTON - To learn about Puerto Rico’s ongoing recovery efforts following Hurricane Maria’s devastation last fall, Republican Main Street Partnership led an educational visit to San Juan last week. Members participating in the trip included Representatives Jenniffer Gonzalez-Colon (PR-AL), Dan Donovan (NY-11), John Rutherford (FL-04), Bill Shuster (PA-09) and Kevin Yoder (KS-03). The members joined Republican Main Street Partnership President and CEO Sarah Chamberlain on the trip.
A short recap of the member’s agenda with accompanying photos can be seen below.
The members were briefed by President of the Puerto Rico Senate Thomas Rivera Schatz and Speaker of the Puerto Rico House of Representatives Johnny Méndez Núñez regarding the current state of recovery, and visited a local FEMA recovery center to meet with volunteers.
The members toured the Amgen Bio-Pharmaceutical Plant, which has been operating on a generator since the Hurricane hit in September. The plant employs more than 2,000 people. Pharmaceuticals represented 72% of Puerto Rico's exports in 2016.
Led by Rep. Yoder and his wife Brooke, the members visited the United Methodist Church in San Juan and brought baby wipes, diapers and formula for the congregation. The group also met with Naguabo Mayor Noe Marcano and members of the Faustino R. Fuertes School to donate school supplies for the students and teachers.
