Main Street Unveils Radio Ad Urging Passage of Budget Deal

“This deal is the first real sign of bipartisan progress in Washington in years.  Those who oppose this deal are doing a tremendous disservice to the American people.” – former U.S. Rep. Steve LaTourette (R-OH)

(Washington, DC) – This week, a two-year bipartisan budget deal was announced. The Main Street Partnership unveiled an ad this morning, running on DC radio, urging the Senate to join the House in passing this important legislation.

“This deal is the first real sign of bipartisan progress in Washington in years,” said former U.S. Rep. Steve LaTourette (R-OH), President of the Main Street Partnership.  “Those who oppose this deal are doing a tremendous disservice to the American people.”

“There have always been interest groups in Washington, but in the last decade we have seen the rise of a new type of interest group,” continued LaTourette.  “Instead of being for something, these groups have a heavy financial stake in being against everything.  They feed off the dysfunction in Washington, fleecing donors and lining their pockets.  It is not surprising that groups like Heritage Action and the Club for Growth oppose this deal, because this deal – indeed any deal – is bad for business for them. Without dysfunction in Washington, they couldn’t raise money.”

“The deal that was struck this week isn’t perfect – no compromise is, that is the essence of compromise,” said LaTourette.  “This deal does, however, take an important first step in finding a long-term solution to the fiscal crisis we face as a nation.”

“This ad is intended to be a common-sense reminder to voters and to the members of the Senate not to let the perfect be the enemy of the good, and not to let the cynical manipulations of a handful of self-serving interests groups stop progress,” concluded LaTourette.
