Earlier this year, Main Street member Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick introduced a Resolution to make March 21st “Rosie the Riveter Day.” This resolution will officially honor the amazing contributions women made to the war effort in the 1940’s. This week he celebrated the first Rosie the Riveter day with Mae Krier of Levittown, PA, one of the original Rosie the Riveters. Mae worked on an assembly line helping to manufacture Boeing B-17 warplanes.
While it is great to celebrate these women this year, we need an act of the Senate to officially declare every March 21st as “Rosie the Riveter Day.” Without these women, the United States would not have been able to build the equipment it needed to win World War II. Without a doubt their efforts should be recognized for generations to come.
